Subject: RE: How do you manage potassium?

Hello Rodney,

In intensively drained agricultural landscapes, loss of P in tile drainage water is generally less than 1-2 lb of total P per acre per year but this can be a significant portion of total P loss (approaching 50%) when erosion is minimal.

Loss of 1 lb of P per acre is quite low in terms of crop nutrient budgets but can have significant impact on aquatic ecosystems.

Do any of your fields have tile drainage? If so, why are you confident that there is no P in the drainage water?

Tell me more about how extremely high P levels are key to healthy crops, weed control and long-term sustainability.

We are growing what appear to be healthy crops and are now achieving good weed control on a farm that had very high weed pressure not too many years ago.

Most of our soil test P levels are about 1/4th of the soil test K levels.
