South Central Montana
As an Ag Teacher...sadly many of the younger ag teacher's have very little Ag background. They know and have little experience with production agriculture. They are former 4H and FFA members who enjoyed the "leadership and competition" aspect. Many have the Ag background of being raised in the country with show animals. Times are changing I guess but the agriculture knowledge of many of the younger ag teacher's I have met in the past few years is rather deficient.
The colleges aren't helping them to understand production agriculture either. Colleges don't teach about farming, they teach about the topics that a farmer should know, largely by people that have never farmed There's not a good means for someone to learn about the realities of production without being in it.
