Southeast Colorado
It's obvious through the years that residue of any kind is better than bare soil. One thing I do notice this time of year though........is that where we run a sweep plow, the conditions stay better for planting longer than where we no till. We were pretty dry before getting a one inch rain 10 days ago or so. Most of our ground is no tilled but we did have a couple that weeds got away from us so we ran the sweep. Now that we are planting we are saving those swept fields until the end because I know we'll be able to still get the seed to germinate. The no tilled stuff will dry out on top first. I don't know the scientific reason as to why that happens..............but it happens.
