Colby, Kansas | Any of the common use commercial probes out today are going to struggle picking up differences in evaporation loss unless there is a really long cumulative time frame to measure it over. Even research grade neutron-access technology, the gold standard in measuring soil water, has some limitations in this regard. The best measruments have come from large buried lysimeters such as those at USDA-ARS Bushland, TX, where they literally have a large box of soil sitting on a scale that is being read multiple times per second.
