WC Mn/Dakotas
The way I read timebandit he is saying residue can wick more moisture than bare ground?? And dwigg is saying the opposite??

I think I agree with timebandit, that really hot and arid areas that can often see single digit humidity levels have different/greater evaporation issues than many other areas that might temporarily get warm and "dry", but typically have much more humidity.

So i can see what works in say tx panhandle isn't going to work where Mike is in sd with respect to residue, evaporation, and retaining soil moisture. Then where I am in wc mn, the bigger problem is residue is more likely to trap too much moisture and never warm up or dry out in the spring to ever get a crop in. Temperature, moisture, day length, growing season length, humidity, wind, soil makeup and structure all vary.

Imho Nebraska work has some relation to SD and some relation to TX. A little of that relates to SD and TX, but much of it doesnt in my experiences.
