Your not getting a 2000 sq foot house for 125 to 150. Maybe 150k if you wanted a cheap piece of crap built on a slab. To do it right probably be real close to 200 per square foot. At least 400k for a 2000 sq foot house.
Not true. We built a 2400 sq foot with 2400 sq foot unfinished basement for $195k. Steel roof, all spray foam, all floor heat, central heat pump A/C, appliance, furniture. Only place we went a little cheaper is things like countertops that eventually get replaced anyway. And they weren't really "cheap", but they are laminate. Basically anything that could not be easily updated later got to of the line
You can save a lot of money if you do some work yourself and don't let one company price you a package on materials. Another thing that costs alot is tons of different roof pitches, trendy finishes, and luxury finishes.
To the OP, build new, build new, build new. We almost did what you were thinking to our old house. While tearing it down I was so happy I didn't. The stuff we found bad would have basically left us only reusing most of the studs and some of the floor.
