With enough temp. changes you can get quite a bit of air movement in and out of the vented cap.The water that does mix with the alcohol is a relatively powerful oxidizer due to the aeration with the atmosphere. This is what oxidizes the metal components of a carburater.According to a former United Captain,a fuel tank on a boat has the least amount of condensation/air flow into the fuel tank due to a more even temp. of the fuel tank and more constant water temp..However due to higher humidities sitting above water, there is still appreciable accumulation of water due to the alcohol. This is why most fueling stations at docks usually only sell straight gasoline.
