It is not the ethanol that is causing your troubles. It is the lower grade blendstock that is used and then ethanol is splash blended into that lower grade blendstock to make 10% ethanol 87 octane gas. Over time that poor grade blendstock deteriorates and then everyone blames the ethanol. Very frustrating.
Auto manufacturers are not afraid of higher blends of ethanol, they are afraid of the crappy blendstock the blenders will use.
