Southern Illinois | One idea I would have if it were an option for you would be to construct a swine or turkey contract facility. I’m not sure if it’s going to coincide with what you’re looking for as far as improving your ROI on your grain farm alone but these tend to pay for themselves in a 10 year timeframe and there’s additional benefit to the added fertilizer costs you’re going to save from the manure. Also gives you or your family to spend more time on the farm. From what I’ve been told, a hog barn only requires 3 - 4 hours per day which is beneficial if your row crop operation is not large enough to sustain a full-time farmer alone. | |
