NW KS/ SC ID | I am careful with my purchases when I do make them, mostly on equipment. It doesnt "make" anything, but it saves alot, and I dont have to work as hard to get to the same spot as some of my buddies.
My 90s 8 row planter came with a bunch of extra parts and I bought the whole thing for 1110 bucks, and planted last years crop without a breakdown. Some people will spend 20K on a straight truck and they have big field entrances and dont have any bins, so why not stay under 10K and buy a semi and trailer (you can, and we have, on a few occasions)
I also fix what I can myself. so far, that is everything. I have a tractor or two in need of an overhaul, and that is where my confidence ends. :)
Places I can, and need to, improve:
1) crop planning and marketing
2) need to get my own sprayer
3) soil health and fertility management (this one could actually be #1 for all I know. :) )
So basically my goal is: keep expenses in check, and try to maximize profit. (NOT maximize production)
