I suppose if you do not believe that the New Testament supersedes the Old Testament then yes, you will most likely think it contradictory. But quite frankly it is not, you will find Scripture in the OT (pointed out above) that tell how the NT teachings will build upon and strengthen those of the OT. Jesus also points this out in Matthew 5:17- Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.There are also many prophecies in the OT that are fulfilled in the NT.

When I read the Bible it is not to find loopholes to allow me to do the things I want to do (yes, there are folks who do). Rather, I read the Bible as a source to find true meaning in life and to learn how to live my life in such a way that it brings honor and glory to God. My desire is to be like the apostle Paul, who I quote from Acts 24:16- And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
