I've always been told the Bible is the inspired word of God, meaning "that God and the Holy Ghost moved the holy men to write, and put into their minds the very thoughts which are expressed, and the very words which they wrote.” (taken from Small Catechism). Thus, it's not stories or written from memory but rather words recorded with divine guidance.
As far as evidence of anything after this life, just speak with a hospice nurse. They'll often speak about the spiritual afterlife and the common experiences of those on their death bed.
But all of this takes faith, asking God and the Spirit to work in you and having complete trust in the unseen. | |
