Belleville, Ontario | I picked this information up out of Agri-Week's 10/2/06 Newsletter, a Canadian publication. It sound like science is being overruled by politics.
"The state's Iowa environmental commission has accepted spurious arguments from anti-pollution extremists to the effect that since soybeans do not absorb nitrogen from the soil they do not take up the nutrient present in manure, which then runs off or leaches out into rivers and streams."
The article's headline states "It may soon be illegal to spread manure on soybean fields in Iowa.
My experience and learning is that soys grown in excessive N will not nodulate very well if at all, and the soys will use the N that is available in the soil.
I hope somebody can bring some truth to the table, here!
