Lord help you! I have the same no drawing, cheap, non-heating POS in my house! The fan is so loud you cannot run it and it doesn't push any air anyway. I grew up with old school brick fireplaces with an iron fireback in them. Much better r than this modern junk! Maybe if you put a piece of 1" steel in the back to radiate heat it might be better, but I don't know if the cheap junk insert will bear the weight. My Godfather has an old school Fisher fireplace insert from back in the '70's that will run you out of the room! It burns a lot of wood, but at least you get real heat from it.
