If a few bad years cause you to give up rental ground you aren't a very long term thinker. We have held rented ground through severe down turns and we were very glad to have them when things got better and boomed.
Now if you lose the land because you can't cash flow the land that's a different story. You should lose the land if you can't cash flow it and then it goes to an operator who has better financial capabilities to operate it through a down turn. Sad to see it happen but I won't sugar coat it.
