When you say severe down turns are you talking about the 80's? That is the only severe down turn that I remember that lasted a few years. In our area rent did come down after a few years in the 80's. We have had some poor crop years since then and had years where we didn't make any money but I would not say any of those times where severe downturns where crop prices effected the whole overall US farm economy.
