You may have overlooked one thing, the renter can walk away, LL cannot.
As to the investor owners, these guys want one thing, that is big return on their money. Once that crashes (again, as it inevitably will), they will dump that like the stone it always was. A lifetime farmer will usually keep farming till it's all gone.
