S.E. Sask. | GinNB - 7/20/2014 10:11 I wish that chemical labels listed rates in litres or kg per acre. I know how big a hectare is but if I want 95% of the people I talk to to be able to "click" with what I'm saying automatically then everything has to be talked about in terms of acres.
True, Maybe it is a "Western thing" but I personally don't know any farmer who is comfortable with or prefers hectares to measure his land. And I would bet that the majority on this forum don't know what I am talking about when I say how many kilograms per hectare my crops yield. Or how many milimetres of rain or snow fell. That is why I almost always use imperial/farenheit measures when making weather reports or comments. Or is it just my imagination? I have not had any herbicide mistakes that I can recall due to metric confusion but I do carry a calculator in the tractor and the "big book" of 2014 Guide to Farm Protection. Which, incidentally lists their recommended herbicide rates in litres per acre. We have developed a hybrid system of measures out of necessity it seems. |
