Subject: Re: Finishing Barns

td1 - 5/31/2013 12:40  Previous poster theorized contract finishing rates are going to stay constant over time, If this theory comes true, I would ask the question why would I as a owner of pigs want to renew the lease on a 5-7 year old barn when I can work with the next guy building with the latest and greatest technology.

That is EXACTLY my point.    In the current environment where they can get a new finisher put up for the exact same rate/pig space as they are paying for the 7 yr old building, you are disposable to the pig company.      If you don't meet their demands when the contract is up you won't be feeding for them again.

That is why lots and lots of perfectly good not very old feeders were getting basically scrapped and replaced with several 1000's of $'s of new feeders, to get the contract renewed.
