That kinda raises an interesting point, or interesting idea. I think the big fear that most Americans would have is being bankrupt by insurmountable medical costs - being involved in a devasting accident; getting cancer; etc etc So, why not develop a system where each person is required - as their income permits - to buy insurance to pay for ordinary medical expenses? or better yet, pay for ordinary medical expenses out-of-pocket? And then, have a government-sponsored program to pick up the tab on those extra-ordinary expenses - the ones that are not too common, but are financially back-breaking. ??? |
