I have never heard of anyone going to Canada for treating by a specialist, but many come to the U.S. of A. seeking our expertise. How long did your relatives have to wait for treatment ? Many, about half, pay little or no income tax here. We, the ones who pay, are tired of giving free services to those who don't. Our society has created a class of free loaders who would likely be exempt from paying a tax for medical services, making us pay more, and we would be burdened with a lesser medical system. Our family insurance plan, which is one of the better ones, costs 896 bucks a month, paid by my wife's employer, but we still have to pay maybe 10 % of the bills. We have a problem , but our Doctors do not want the plan being put forth by our current administration.
I know people who've went to Canada to get treated. Lasik surgery was approved in Ontario for quite a while before it was in the states, for example. I knew people here waiting for the opportunity to get it done in the US. When it did become available, the cost was running about 2-3 times what it was in Ontario. It might take me 2 hands to count the folks I know who went into Canada for that particular surgery.
There are Canadians who come to the States for treatment, no argument there. But I don't know that its always for any special expertise our medical professionals have over their Canadian counterparts- its usually because there is a lack of professionals (hence the long waits) in Canada. Its real common to get trained in Canada and then emigrate to the US to practice. The moneys better here.
If I had to pick a known health care plan (the Canadian model) vs what I think we'll have here, the Canadian model looks like a lot better deal to me. No clue why the President and his health care nazis chose to reinvent the wheel. |
