Baldwin City, KS | Extremely common for us or anyone else around here, to drag a chisel or ripper and not give any thought to whether it is doing any good. I have long suspected that if we aren't willing to put the effort of checking for compaction layers and whatnot, or figuring out the places we actually need to run the tool, we would be just as well off discing rather than chiseling in the fall saving time and fuel. That is what I was hoping to accomplish if I do buy a Phillips harrow for spring use and start actually figuring out where I need to run a deep tillage tool and where I don't. I don't really care for no till corn, but I can't stand spending unjustified fuel and seat time dragging a tillage tool around when I don't know if it is making a nickels worth of difference.
ahay, thanks for starting a great discussion on something that I have long wondered about, but not gotten around to asking. Hope to learn alot before it is done. | |
