Interesting how the same population had a better yield in twin row in 2006. What do you think made the most difference to yield? More starter fert., more space for each plant, better light absorption?

I really like Dan's experiment idea, but I got the impression from the get go that true staggered spacing wasn't a prime concern, it was an EXPERIMENT. Buying a true twin row planter to avoid 2 passes wouldn't be an experiment. If it were me, I wouldn't consider the second pass as additional cost in the evaluation, if you were going to go twin row for real, you'd use a twin row planter. As he stated, utilizing a current 30 row corn head to harvest is a part of it. End of the day, net return is what counts.

I am very curious on you and Dan's thoughts on starter and twin rows, if you were to go full production twin rows would you use double rate? Half rate? Somewhere in between? I assume we are talking about in furrow starter?
