| With an AC machine, I'd go with the 6011 1/8" downhill at approximately 90 or 100 amps. Depending on what it is, maybe a small root bead, then a second, wider pass over it. With a DC machine, I'd use the E7018, 3/32" uphill at approximately 75 - 80 amps, or E7016 3/32" uphill at a slightly lower current setting. Cellulose based flux = downhill, low hydrogen = uphill, generally, but there are exceptions. Consider using some new electrodes, if you use something that has been in a toolbox in the shop for 20 years it might run rough no matter what current setting you use. | |
