Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | I'm not surprised by the small ears. Ear size, (number of rows and kernals per row) is determined early in the plants life. Saturated soils were not ideal. Later on, I think a lot of corn got lazy and did not develope a massive root system, due to wet soil conditions, which is required to produce a big ear. The corn just does not have enough root system to aquire enough nutrients to feed the plant for a big yield. |
