I was checking on my strip tilled corn on corn the other day and saw the same thing. Very nice long ears but only 14 around. I'm surprised this is exactly the same number you saw. Here's a picture. Very nicely pollinated, long ear measured 14 x 46 or thereabouts depending on how close to the tip I count.  Same hybrid last year had quite a few more rows around. I planted on time this year, not Memorial Day! Maybe that's my problem!

A lot of them look like this. I was feeling pretty good until I counted the rows around.
