Subject: Smaller ears then normal!

east central south dakota
I walked a lot of corn today and have been seeing a lot of small ears 12x32@20,000 final ears. These counts are coming from what I thought from the outside looking in were great looking fields. What are you seeing??? Is this due to our wet conditions?? I assume its that and the fact that we are short of N but some of the fields aren’t showing any N def at all and still have small ears. Confusing because what seemed to almost be a prefect growing season other then larger then needed rainfalls here in south dakota may turn out to be an average year at best with the low grounds all flooded out.
