Coldwater, Michigan | Regardless of form - yes! However, where you put it does influence uptake. Particularly with the less mobile nutrient "P" the closer placement influences the uptake of that nutrient before becoming fixed by the soil solution. The reason so much of "P" isn't available in the year of application, is that the rest gets tied up. Banding gets more into the plant before the soil has a chance to act on it, because you are applying a concentrated quantity, ususally close to the seed. Broadcasting "P" dilutes the concentration, therefore a lot of soil gets a chance to tie up the element before the plant has a chance to take it in. That's why the utilization in year of application makes a difference.
However, eventually you will draw down the level that is available to the crop, if you do not maintain a certain adequate level by applying appropriate amounts.
