Wisconsin | The DC high voltage and high amperage chargers you see will charge a battery in the middle of it's range fast enough to drive across country with stops. It's the final topping charge that takes longer. Like if you could fill your gas tank half way in thirty minutes, but the second half took another two hours to fill.
Anything that's not a DC fast charger is just a control box that protects the cord, maybe some ground fault protection etc. The actual charger is built into the car, it has to monitor the battery pack closely to prevent loud noises and flashes of light which scare people. Tesla and others have promoted the deception that the cord is a charger, makes them look high tech maybe?
A cord out the door will work slowly as explained, most will wire a 220 outlet of some sort, I read somewhere that the efficiency was significantly higher for 220 chargers, couldn't find out why, except maybe it's another step to boost the voltage? most farmers aren't going to have a problem finding a spare 60 amp breaker. The plug and cord is not going to be a big issue for most here.
