The DC high voltage and high amperage chargers you see will charge a battery in the middle of it's range fast enough to drive across country with stops. It's the final topping charge that takes longer. Like if you could fill your gas tank half way in thirty minutes, but the second half took another two hours to fill.

It's more like take on a charge from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes and an additional 30 minutes to go from 80% to 100%.  Kind of like pumping diesel, wait a couple minutes after it clicks and you can sneak in another gallon or two as the foam dissipates.
