The key to not losing lean muscle is eating an adequate amount of protein. Protein is the building block of muscle. Think red meat. Red meat for protein and fatty meat for the fat energy. Bacon, eggs, ribeye, 80 percent lean (20% fat) hamburger (has a fat to protein level of about 70-30 as I recall - remember meat is not 100% protein).
