W Texas | I hired an illegal inadvertently once. He worked three days. He is about 60 and has been here for 40+ years.
Anyway, he heard from the crew that he would be getting paid by check. He straight up told me he would only take cash because he was living in subsidized housing, getting medicaid, and getting SSI, etc. I told him no and he was gone by noon that day.
I called and called trying to get bank info to send him payment for 2.5 days of labor. He politely refused to be paid.
The other thing no one has mentioned is legal risk. Someone works for a few days for you and comes down with back pain, etc., they can wind up eating your bologna without working for the rest of your natural born life. In fact, I have a worthless Aunt who literally worked for three weeks her entire life and she's 68. That was about 40 years ago for USPS. She is still complaining of the pain from her back "injury" and still getting a check. | |
