I have commented several times that I think a young couple could make it on 80-100 acres, but they will not be raising commodity crops.

Someone said high value crops require a very different market and marketing mindset.  Do I have the manpower available ... and do I want to put up with the hassle if it is ... for crops like that?  I'm getting old and grouchy.

As Loran said, distance to markets is a big factor.  As ahay68979 said, you either have to be big enough to supply a major chain consistently or sell it direct to consumers
