East-Central Ontario | Not a humanities, social "science", classics or English lit degree among them. Speaks volumes to the kinds of kids you raised.
Friends son goes to university this fall. Mother and grandmother are unemployed, father nowhere to be found, mediocre student. Headed off to start a humanities degree with no goal in mind of any kind. $60,000 plus in loans ahead of him should he stick it out long enough to earn a degree that will qualify him to work at Starbucks. Meanwhile there are half a dozen tradesmen within a block on his street who can't find apprentices for jobs that would see them making close to six figures before he graduates. | |
