I think cows tend to be a hell of lot easier to raise, so naturally people try and promote something that works well for them, not what necessarily tastes the best. Look at the success of Black Angus beef, lol. I raise Black Angus beef, and the bumper sticker on my stock trailer says Eat Beef.

I really like good lamb. But, bad lamb is really, really bad. I've had some beef that was tough, some beef that didn't taste great, but never any that was really revolting. Bad lamb can be really revolting.

That said, good lamb, raised and finished right, cooked by someone who preferable has herded sheep, has big hands, a big nose and black hair can be a real treat. I don't think there is much better.
