It's an interesting proposition. I'd say if you didn't have the cattle and the advantage of the manure so close to the half section, I probably wouldn't do it. But taking in consideration the logistical advantage that half section could provide is definitely worth giving it a thought.

Only thing I'll say is, pour soils are hard to improve. 47 to mid 80s is a big spread. On a very dry year it very well can be 100 bushels less regardless of how much manure is on the field no water is no water. Is the half section well drained? Or does it need to be tiled? Tile split? Farming around terraces can be a PITA, Would installing water ways in the half section and pushing the terraces down make it more farmable versus going around them? Has the half section been taken care of and well maintained? In the end does it improve your bottom line? These questions should all be considered.
Lastly have the conversation, ya just never know what might shake out.
