Pilot Grove, Missouri | They are a big part of the problem. Coal plants have been shut down in favor of wind and solar. Coal plants can ramp up capacity when needed in bad weather. Wind generators which aren't designed to run in the cold and ice must be shut down. Solar doesn't produce in cloudy weather period, much less when covered with snow. Doing away with a proven source that can be ramped up when needed to sources that don't produce when needed. Natural gas plants compete with heating for fuel, so they're not really a good replacement for coal either. Patrick | |
