North of London

Where did you find numbers that show Australia as bad as Sweden?
I understood Sweden's numbers were bad and Australia's were much better.

So I found this site with numbers from around the world and pulled numbers per 1Million population for a few countries.

Think these are correct as I may have switched a line as I read them.
Lots more countries listed if you are interested in another

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

                 Cases.     Deaths

US 76,279 1,273
Canada 19,413    496
Sweden 53,991 1,086
Australia  1,120      35

And checking that my memory was correct about Australia locking down I found this article which also mentions China

And it calls Victria state a 'severe' lockdown but I think it also stopped the spread
That was September and the Lockdown had been in effect since July.
It says they had 11 new cases a day then compared with over 670 a day before

The epidemiologist that they quote  says it shows how targeted lockdowns can stop the virus

Victoria state lockdown rules include

.Some of the measures include:

  • You cannot leave your home unless it’s for exercising, caregiving, working or buying essential supplies. If you do leave, you must stay within 5 km of home
  • Masks have to be worn outside
  • Schools changed to remote learning
  • Childcare centres are closed
  • You cannot have visitors or go to another person’s house unless it is for the purpose of giving or receiving care
  • You can meet one other person outdoors for a maximum of two hours
  • There is a curfew between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. (previously 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.) The onset of the curfew was adjusted to one hour later as spring approaches in the southern hemisphere and daylight hours will begin getting longer.
  • There is a ban on weddings
  • Restaurants and cafes will only be open for takeaway and delivery
  • General retail, gyms, hair salons and bars are closed
