Nothing odd about it....my Grandpas and Dad had at least a 15 minute rest after lunch. The older you get the more you need that 15 minute power nap. Also it is hottest at noon and it was best time to stay out of the heat....back before AC and back then lots of manual labor was done. If I was up at 4, I don't think an hour nap would be unreasonable.
Odd way of doing things... not wrong just odd!
