Subject: RE: 4 cylinder engines and balancers-engine theory

NW Washington
There is info on the web that explains combustion engine balance and how to counteract it. Here is a Wikipedia on the subject. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_balance
There are more formal Youtube explanations too that come up on a Google search.
For info on balancing system here is a link to info on the common Lanchester balancing system which I think was used by John Deere and Ford on some 4 cylinder engines. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balance_shaft
Modern vehicles usually limit the displacement of 4 cylinder engines to 2.5 liters because balance problems get hard to control or hide with larger displacement. Chrysler did use a 2.7 liter 4 with a balance shaft for short time back in the K car days. I think this engine was actually a rebranded Mitsubishi engine. I am sure Yamaha had a vertical two cylinder motorcycle that used balancing shaft too. A V-6 is another engine with natural balance problems too.
