Driftless SW Wisconsin

Fleckviehs are registered by the Simmental association. His epd for calving ease is ASA 9.8, about the middle of the Simmental range. The breeder in SD who I bought him from emphasized not to put him on heifers. To be safe I put him on experienced cows only.

I saw no calving problems from his calves this past spring but they are large. Maybe it's the big square head shape and shoulders, I don't know for sure but just do not want to take chances.

His calves now look great. I'll see next late spring and summer when I start processing his calves whether or not this experiment is worthwhile.  I suspect the calves will be early maturing with more pounds of beef at my 13-14 month processing age. Beef quality is supposed to be high. We'll see.

My Herefords on the other hand have for several generations had good CED numbers. The results in the spring confirm that.
