ha/roz - 10/18/2018 09:16 Hair Coat and gut volume tells a lot of story. If the Hereford has had foot problems it likely will reoccur down the road. The Red Bull looks to me to be a better grass converter and he will pass that on in his offspring. These Schu-Lar Hereford bulls have not had foot problems, it's the Fleckvieh that had an abcess on a rear hoof. Both have done well on grass alone, they've had nothing but grass, salt and mineral in my rotational grazing system. Both breeders I purchased these bulls from are grass based also. So hair coat is also an indication of grass conversion? Mine all get woolly in the winter. They have to. The only shelter they get in the winter is the woods. Just some get woolly earlier than others. The Hereford is getting woolly earlier than the others. Here's a picture of the Fleck bull on the vet's tilt table where he got his hoof abcess cleaned out. It's the right rear hoof that the vet is cleaning off to work on.
