WC Mn/Dakotas | Ntbill, i agree both systems have pros and cons. What is profitable one place is not necessarily in another. Its interesting that nearly all your arguments for grid are exactly my arguments to do zones.
I personally zone because we get a positive roi doing it where it is nearly impossible with grids here. Part of that equation for me is making very detailed zones, secondly time- it takes me 1hr plus to zone a quarter vs about 8hr to grid it. I feel it is better to sample every year than guess at 3 years worth of recs off of 1 known. To me a grid often introduces as many errors spatially as it identifies. Most grid samplers i see do a very poor job of taking quality and consistent cores, and often take 1 or just a few big cores per grid. We dont generally hsve to lime too much, if we do its a little bit on 1/3 of the acres. | |
