All I have ever used are zones that I make. Some fields the soil maps are dead on, other fields not so much. Soil,lidar, and NDVI images are usually my go to for creating zones. Here elevation and soil type are pretty hand in hand and you can lay a NDVI image over that and have a pretty good idea of zones.
