Driftless SW Wisconsin

Boone & Crockett - 4/26/2017 05:58 Anderson 400's in our new home. They're terrific.

I second the Anderson 400 series double hung! No need for storm windows. Easy to clean.

I built a new home 5 years ago and after doing a survey of many different "energy efficient" home builders in the northern US and parts of Canada settled on the Anderson 400 series. They are amazing.

Do be aware Anderson makes other lower cost windows. Stick with the Anderson 400 series.

As far as casement vs double hung, folks tell me a casement is more energy efficient.... I am not convinced. A casement also relies on a mechanical mechanism which is seldom used and prone to failure over the years. I have some very cold winters on these 400 series double hungs and very happy.

You can obsess about home insulation etc but then lose it through the windows. Windows are probably THE critical decision in building a house in the north, imho.

Good luck and enjoy your new home!
