I always thought a well was hand dug so large diameter and a bore is sunk by machine and smaller diameter.
Here, a hole in the ground from which to extract fluids is a well regardless of depth, size, or method of digging/drilling. Although, at 300+ feet to water, you won't find any hand dug wells. :)
We've had two house wells go dry in 15 years, and are currently drawing water from a former irrigation well that we quit using two years ago. There wasn't enough water left to irrigate with, but still has plenty for domestic use. We put in a water softener and reverse osmosis system when we started using the "new" well. I'm finally getting used to the taste of softened water. I never thought our hard water had a flavor, but when the minerals are removed it tastes like bottled water; I can only describe it as artificial. | |
