Subject: For me specifically.....

Blvd d'Espair Bowhill, Sth Aust
we have underground water (sub-artesian), but...
1. its 370 feet down. Not wells as such but bores. This might be a difference in terminology only. I am unsure.
2. It is not suitable for human consumption, or to grow anything with due to high calcium and magnesium salts. Dont recall the actual figures right now.
It is quite suitable for cattle and sheep to drink, but not really pigs or poultry.

I do use it for crop spraying but use Am Sulphate as a conditioner. I would run out of rain water very quickly if I sprayed with that, and as you might understand that is a precious commodity.

Other areas have better underground water.
And other areas still have worse water.
Some shallower and some deeper.
Australia IS a big place so there is quite a variance..in most things. And i am quite a ways from poster Emu..
