..if fact we do the same with a pellitized chicken manure product in the fall.

  The trouble I have is with the recent ressurgence of the idea that salt fertilizer applied as broadcast in the fall (+-tillage) is somehow ever going to be more efficient than any in-season salt applied fertilizer.

There have been no published trials, to my knowledge, that have shown the former to be more efficient.
