Subject: RE: impact of fall N on the decomposition of corn stover

West Union, IOWA FLOLO Farm 52175

Joel, I don't have any sceintific data or titles behind me...  But Stalk deconp is precisely why I put stalk stompers on in 07/08?

I had been watching, whereever we drove stalks down during harvest....they broke down quicker.   I figured it's probaly becasue the Nitrate in the stalks being released(confirmed by stalk test/we tend to run in optimum range) and get that breif contact with the ground while juicy.....

In the years since it's been working, and the Better job the stompers do...the quicker the decomp.

this year we'll be grinding the stallks up more with the head....can't wait to see the results--

Long story short=  the N is in the plant....we just need to use it?
