South Central Alberta | I drove up to my brother's shop when he was just finishing welding up and grinding down a tooth on a crown gear in his Mack. (He had just bought the truck and discovered on the way home that a rear diff was making noise.) He had the gear sitting on his work table and asked me to find the tooth that was damaged... I picked the wrong tooth. He is a journeyman welder. He drove it for years and never had a problem with that part again.
Some years later, I did the same on the starter ring gear on a Nissan truck but I obviously couldn't feel as heroic as him.
